The partnership concept
The name DORIS_Net (Downstream Observatory organised by Regions active In Space - Network) has been chosen to illustrate that this project has a fully user led approach to establish a network linking European regional and local authorities.
All regional consortium partners are potential users of GMES services and members of the NEREUS network of European regions bringing a wealth of experience and know how into the project. Although DORIS_Net has its roots in the NEREUS network it will not be restricted to NEREUS members. Within the duration of the project DORIS_Net will expand to further European regions and define a concept for sustainability with a roadmap showing long term vision
DORIS_Net starts with a nucleus of 12 pilot regions working together to set up the “European GMES Downstream Service Platform”. The functions incorporated in this Platform are then tested in the first pilot run within this project laying the foundations to expand the network gradually to incorporate more and more European regions in a systematic approach to support them in implementing the GMES downstream service portfolio in the most suitable way. In addition to the 12 regions of the consortium, DORIS_Net involves initially seven Outreach Regions (Latvia, Estonia, Ireland, Hungary, Finland, Madeira/ Portugal and Provence Cote d' Azur) which are “tutored” in implementing the DORIS_Net methodology.
